“Come near to God and He will come near to you”-James 4:8a
We are a warm and welcoming Parish, serving as the heart of Morningside for over 120 years.
“To glorify God through being a loving, caring, compassionate and spirit-filled Parish, cherishing our diversity and acting according to God’s Word and Will; to make a positive impact on our family and community”.
Communion is taken to those who are unable to attend services. Anointing is offered to the ill, or those who desire restoration and healing. Hospital visits offer prayer, support and encouragement to patients. Bereavement and terminal illness counselling is available for those who need it.
Tea and coffee is served in the hall or courtyard after services. Services are also held regularly at a number of Retirement Homes. Funeral/Memorial Services are arranged as required.
Courses offered in the past include Alpha, Marriage Preparation, Marriage Enrichment and Parenting, to name a few. Baptism and Confirmation preparation is also conducted depending on needs. Courses are usually planned to meet current demands.
St James shares with other community groups in the provision of peanut butter sandwiches for needy children at Morningside Primary School. Peanut butter, golden syrup, margarine and bread donations are always most welcome to assist with this project. This outreach is ongoing, whenever a need is identified.
Church or Hall Hire
Under certain conditions, the church may be hired for weddings. The hall may be hired for meetings or other activities. Please contact the office in this regard.
Thank you for dropping in on our Web Site here at St. James, Morningside, Durban, South Africa. Our church is situated in the green and leafy sub-tropical suburb of Morningside on the Berea, overlooking the great Port City of Durban, the largest port on the East Coast of Africa. Under God the Holy Spirit and the direction of our clergy and staff, we have a “holistic” ministry, shared extensively by laity teams. We are thus able to offer a happy Family and Children’s ministry; an exciting Anointing and Healing ministry; pastoral teams visiting newcomers and meeting the needs of those in hospital and at home; house groups where in-depth bible study takes place and two Intercessory prayer groups holding the needs of Durban and all her people, before God.
